Laws aboard the Lux and Law Enforcement. Empty Laws aboard the Lux and Law Enforcement.

Hey guys, I have a few questions about the current state of Laws on board the Lux.

Is there a page or a thread that describes the Laws or did I miss that out somewhere? Since my character would be working in Security/Law he would have to know what rules to enforce and follow.

Second question, how would he go about doing that, what's the punishments that he could sanction on evil-doers and those certainly less evil but still unlawful?

There's no real law page (yet at least. Thanks for mentioning this, we should have one at least to give wide idea of it).
But what I've understood is that there's not so strict law on LUX. Naturally, if you break or damage something, you will pay for it. Anything small or similar are usually handled by the sector's local enforcement teams and their commanding officers (so instead of a trial for theft, the officer has basicly a direct saying how the violator will be punished. Any possible complains will take the case to higher rank).

Most common ways of punishement are cutting down person's credit income, make them do civilian work, possible loss of their current job, fines and/or confiscating possible illegal goods. In case these people protest or resist the arresting or anything to it, enforcers are allowed only to use stunning/disarming weapons and only in case of self-defence.
Isolation and cells are usually used only in case of sudden violence outbreaks, and in most minor cases will only be for few days.

In case of larger (ie. rape, murder, kidnapping with intent of blackmailing) or continous (ie. harrassing or multiple assaults) crimes the person will most definetely be locked in an isolation cell and hold in until LUX passes the person's home planet, where they drop him for law to handle. If such person resists arrest, enforcers are allowed to use lethal force to stop him.

What law enforcement units on LUX mostly do is to prevent anything from happening, and telling civilians/other crew if they are doing something wrong. So, they tell you if you are littering by accident (but don't usually write fines immediately), break any possible brawls, try to help in case of disputes or misunderstandings and in general take care nothing bad happens. Usually this means taking the initiative, like stopping a person by making your existence knowledged (most people don't want to start a fight when riot-controlling gear carrying enforcer is nearby).

These are only my answers, though, and you shouldn't take them for granted until some other moderator/admin/higher person agrees with them.

So what do you suggest Kaiden should do if he sees someone break the Law, like public indecency, disrespect towards an officer, or brawling?

Break the situation and make sure it's not going to be repeated. If it's something other than a guy throwing a fit 'cause his sister just died and somebody's joking on it, should use own judgement on whether just put some small fine on him, take him up to the office or report him to higher ups immeadiately via the network and ask for more orders. While making sure that violator doesn't get away.

Mostly answer will be to just make sure he doesn't do it again (if this has been done already, punishment will be more severe), put on some fines or make sure the guy understands he's supposed to report up at the farmsite for some plant caretaking 4 am in the morning for next three days.

Alright, what about monetary fines. What's the currency, and how much should I charge for a small offence?

Also, I would be writing those things down in a little notebook, wouldn't I?

The currency has been explained bit here.
Small fines would range from 10 to 40 credits, while larger ones would be from 100 to 700.

Sure, if by "notebook" you mean "virtual uplink to the network so that everyone on your office can know about them".

Awesome, and sure. I wasn't sure what kind of recording devices I would use, so I just assumed pen and paper.

He would be using his VeX to upload a report to the network, I presume he would have a specially designed one too?

Not really a specially designed one. Just one with specific security clearances set on it.

Well Eltharrion has made some good points which I agree with. Not really anything to add to this but we will probably post the basic guidelines for law in the future.
